Wendy Nakamura's painting, SAKURA SAKURA "Cherry Blossom", was selected for inclusion in the 2026 Sakura Community Art Exhibit at the San Diego Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. The exhibit includes artworks by both local and national artists and celebrates the beauty and symbolism of the Japanese Garden's Cherry Blossom trees. The exhibit highlights artists’ diverse and creative interpretations of cherry blossoms across a wide variety of mediums.
Wendy's painting uses a special embossing technique to design the individual petals. She uses contrasting matte and pearl finishes with gold metallic for the flower centers. The painting shimmers in sunlight, expressing the play of light on the individual cherry blossom petals on a sunny spring day.
The exhibition runs through April 21, 2026 and is located in the Inamori Pavillion in the Lower Gardens of the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park.
