Fancy Feast
by Portia La Touche
The 2020 Chinese New Year is January 25, and it’s the Year of the Rat or Mouse.

In Chinese culture, rats were seen as a sign of wealth and surplus. Because of their reproduction rate, married couples historically prayed to them for children. Rats are alert, clever, quick thinkers; successful, and content with living a quiet and peaceful life. Optimistic and energetic, people born in the year of the Rat are likable by all. They are kind, sensitive to the emotions of others, and can be stubborn. On the financial side, they like saving and make good financial decisions. People born in the Year of the Rat are clever and adapt quickly to new environments. They are creative and are great at taking advantage of opportunities. Because of their independence and imagination, they are suitable for creative jobs such as authors, editors, and artists. Rats pay attention to fine detail making them also well-suited for technical work, such as engineering and architecture.

In celebration of Year of the Rat, please enjoy paintings of mice or rats by our member artists.
